About Me

After earning a BA in Zoology and a Master's in Instructional Design, I took the "scenic route" to becoming a science writer. First there was the sharp detour into high tech, where I worked as a developer, a technical writer and an editor. In my spare time I hiked, volunteered at zoos and gardens, taught astronomy to 2nd and 3rd graders, and eventually realized I found the natural world a lot more fascinating than software.

I'm a recent graduate of the Science Writing Program at Johns Hopkins. I've written about scorpions and Gila monsters, bioluminescence and mummy innards. Curiosities abound. Aslo, unexpectedly, I'm a recent transplant to Minnesota, where I've become an instant fan of the Great Lakes.
